“What’s going on outside is a reflection of what's going on inside. To change your results, you MUST change your mental programming” - Bob Proctor
Our mindset influences our reality way more than we realize. It influences every aspect of who we are; how we cope with life challenges, how we approach every day, how we deal with money, how we deal with people and opportunities, how we treat ourselves, the list goes on. Important right? You deserve to live a happy, fulfilling life. Your best life, and that all comes down to your mindset. Here are a few of my top mindset shifts to improve your everyday life:
Decide what deserves energy and act accordingly > Instead of reacting to everything that you face or encounter
This one is a biggie! Learning to distinguish what is and isn't worth your attention and energy will be one of the best things you do for yourself. It’s so easy to overreact to our experiences and circumstances, and allow them to get us down or affect our mood, but not everything deserves that much power. When you experience negativity or setbacks, take a step back and evaluate the situation before allowing yourself to get so wrapped up in it. Ask yourself, is this going to matter in 6 months/year from now? Does this person know me well enough to make that judgement? Does this deserve my energy and time right now? If the answers to those questions are no, then DO NOT take it on. Let stuff go and let people be. Keep your energy right. Observe it and continue on with what you can control, and what you can influence for the better.
Admire and inspire others > Instead of comparing yourself to others
We have to drop the comparisons! I know it’s hard, and almost ingrained in us through social media but we are all wonderfully and beautifully made with our very own purpose and passion. We all have our own strengths and advantages, we all have our own weaknesses and disadvantages, and we ALL go through shit! Guess what else? We ALL have the power to change our lives for the better and make it whatever we want it to be. When you see people doing ‘better’ or that are ‘ahead’ of you, never judge yourself in comparison to that. Use that as fuel, and as inspiration to continue pushing for your dream (or as a reminder to get up and get working sis!) if they can do it, you can too! Believe that! Rather than comparing yourself to the next person, admire them for their strengths and learn where you can. And on the other end of that, rather than comparing and judging the next person for their ‘downfalls’, have compassion and inspire growth where you can. Don’t give in to your comparisons, find the power in them.
Make a conscious effort to remain present in the moment > Instead of constantly reflecting on the past and projecting what will happen in the future
Another biggie. A lot of what we feel and think about on a daily basis involves either things that've happened in the past, or things we’re looking forward to in the future. I think it is important to reflect often, especially from a growth perspective, but when it becomes all we think about, we start to judge the present moment based on our expectations of it. We cause stress on ourselves by not accepting the present moment for what it is and instead feeling discouraged or frustrated that it isn't what we want it to be. We then miss out on fully embracing the goodness and beauty around us. Think about this, the present moment is all we have - what happened prior to this moment is gone and will never be back again, and the future doesn't even exist yet and could be changed in an instant. Be present and fully experience your life, you deserve it! What matters is now, so make the most of your life now!
